Each JOINT GUARD Liver Chew contains:
Glucosamine Hydrochloride 250 mg
Purified Sodium Chondroitin Sulphate 200 mg
Also contains MSM, manganese gluconate, calcium ascorbate (Vit C), zinc, copper, vitamin E
Joint Guard:
Joint Guard helps prevent cartilage degeneration by supplying all critical components on a daily basis. This is a chondroprotective (joint protective) effect.
Research trials on combinations of Glucosamine, Chondroitin, Manganese and Vitamin C report a significant synergy between these components, and a chondroprotective effect, as well as a mild anti-inflammatory effect following regular administration.
The essential components in Joint Guard serve to both reduce cartilage degeneration, and stimulate production of healthy cartilage matrix.
Glucosamine hydrochloride - stimulates formation of both synovial (joint) fluid and the cartilage matrix, Chondroitin sulfate - provides protection from the enzymes which break down cartilage, and is the major component in cartilage,
Manganese and Vitamin C - are essential in the pathways to manufacture cartilage,
MSM - is used during soft connective tissue synthesis e.g. in the joint capsule.
Long term treatment with Joint Guard may help reduce non-infectious joint inflammation
Joint Guard Liver Chews can be given daily, dosed according to weight. It can be given to young animals at a low daily maintenance dose for a regular protective effect, or at a higher daily dose for animals experiencing existing cartilage damage:
| Animal Weight | Joint Guard Dose | |||
| Initial 4 - 6 weeks | Maintenance | |||
| Powder | Chews | Powder | Chews | |
| 5 - 10 kg | ½ Scoop daily | 2 chews daily | ¼ scoop daily | 1 chew daily |
| 11 - 22kg | 1 scoop daily | 4 chews daily | ½ Scoop daily | 2 chews daily |
| 23 - 44kg | 1 ½ scoops daily | 6 chews daily | 1 scoop daily | 4 chews daily |
| Over 45kg | 2 scoops daily | 8 chews daily | 1 ½ scoops daily | 6 chews daily |
| * One scoop = 5 g | |
| * Each chew is equivalent to 1.25 g of Joint Guard Powder |
It is necessary to initiate treatment at double the maintenance dose in order to "load up" the body with therapeutic levels of the active ingredients, generally for the first 4 - 6 weeks. At this point, the dose can gradually be reduced over time to find the lowest possible amount that will keep the dog comfortable.
Joint Guard for Dogs may provide a joint protective effect when used alone as a daily dose, and is a very useful adjuventive therapy for existing joint damage when used in combination with the Veterinary Prescription Only drug, Pentosan 100 (injections) to further stimulate joint repair.
Liver Chews - 250 g (approx 120 individual chews)
Store below 30°C (Room Temperature). Protect from moisture, heat and light. Reseal sachet after opening.
For General Sale (APVMA 62683)
Precautions : Not recommended as an alternative treatment in acute joint inflammation. For a diagnosis to determine these conditions or in the event of adverse reaction (eg diarrhoea) or where response is unsatisfactory, consult your veterinarian. Use with caution in pregnant or lactating animals as safe use in these groups has not been established. Use with caution in animals with bleeding, liver or kidney disorders.
